The National Swine Improvement Federation has, as its primary function, developing and implementing more uniform, effective, and coordinated swine improvement programs. Its members include, but are not limited to, seedstock producers, central test stations, swine testing organizations, A.I. studs, and other seedstock production and marketing groups.

Each year the Federation holds a conference and annual meeting during which the impact and application of swine breeding technology are reviewed and updated. The publication of the proceedings of these conferences serves to advance the Federation's objective of improving genetic evaluation programs.

The 2007 conference and annual meeting were hosted by the NSIF at the Embassy Suites - MCI Airport, Kansas City, Missouri. The objective of the 2007 conference was to gain further insight on emerging areas of genomics research as well glean further knowledge on how changes in technology can change and improve the implementation of genetic improvement programs. The program brought together a strong academic and industry-based group of speakers to address these topics.

Once again, the symposium and annual meeting were sponsored and very generously supported through the financial contributions of the NSIF Member Organizations. In addition, genetic suppliers and industry participants played a key role supporting the program through direct financial contributions, committee involvement, and delivery of materials as speakers. The NSIF Board of Directors would like to sincerely thank the following organizations for their support of the conference and annual meeting: Genetiporc, Hermitage NGT, Hypor, Inc., Iowa Pork Industry Center, National Swine Improvement Federation, National Swine Registry, Newsham Choice Genetics, PIC USA, Smithfield Premium Genetics, and S & S Programming, Inc. Without this support, high-quality programming efforts would not be possible.

We hope these proceedings will be useful and informative. Additional copies of this and previous proceedings are available from the office of the Secretary-Treasurer. Copies of the Swine Genetics Handbook, containing fourteen fact sheets, can be purchased from the Secretary at $10.00 each. In addition, Guidelines for Uniform Swine Improvement Programs is available at no charge.

Elsewhere in these proceedings you will find a list of the 2007-2008 NSIF Officers and Directors. Please feel free to contact these individuals with questions or comments.
